Ortho K Contact Lenses
Ortho K is a vision crorrective therapy that provides clear comfortable vision without the need to wear contact lenses or spectacles during the day. A safe and reversible alternative to lazer corrective surgery.
Orthokeratology or Ortho K involve the use of specially designed rigid gas permable (RGP) contact lenses to alter the shape of the cornea in order to reduce or correct short sight and astigmatism. Most patients wear the lenses over night and remove them when awake.
Ortho K is availible to patients with a spectacle prescription of -0.75D to -4.50D and for astigmatism up to -2.50D. It is ideal for sportsmen and women, those who work in dusty and dirty environments or people who find spectacles or normal contact lenses inconvenient. Those who need a certain degree of uncorrected vision to satisfy their employers or licensing body eg; police can be helped by Ortho K. Children and teenagers with early myopia can also use Ortho K lenses and there is new evidence to suggest that the procedure may slow down the progrestion of myopia.
